Upgrading eNodeB

Upgrading CPE

To upgrade the base station firmware from the eNB GUI:

  1. Go to System > Upgrade.
  2. Click on Choose File, and select the new firmware.
  3. Click on Upgrade Now.

Note: GUI menus and navigation may vary from one release to another.

To upgrade eNB firmware from the OMC:

  1. Go to eNB > Upgrade > Software.
  2. Click on the + Add icon in the upper right,and select Software Upgrade.
  3. Accept or change the Task Name, and select the device group in the pull-down menu.
  4. Select the check box next to each eNB you want to upgrade, and “move” them to the Selected section of the window using the right arrow.
  5. Choose the Execute Type, which determines when the upgrade will occur.
  6. Click on Next to bring up a list of image files.
  7. Select the radio button next to the new firmware file name.
  8. Select Finish.
  9. In the list of image files shown on the eNB > Upgrade > Software page, find the new firmware and under Operation select the 3 vertical bubbles icon. If you selected Immediately for the Execute Type, the Operation sub-menu will show “Awaiting Start”. Click on Awaiting Start to initiate the upgrade immediately. If you scheduled the Execute Type, the Operation sub-menu will say Active. If you want to go ahead and start the upgrade now, click on Active. You will receive a Confirm window asking if you want to take the upgrade action immediately. Select OK if you do.

RTS 3.4.8 for Nova R9 TDD base stations has been released. This version includes many bug fixes as well as adding important features like uplink 64 QAM, PRACH format 2, subframe config 0, 1588v2 sync, and jumbo frames. Starting with this version, we will also be changing the CloudCore PLMN to 314030.

For every CAT6 CPE which is connected to the eNB, you will want to verify that roaming is set to enabled. If roaming is set to disabled on any CAT6 CPE, it will prevent them from attaching to the eNB after the upgrade if the SIM card used does not begin with “314030”. These CPEs also use the following model names: EG7010CM11, EG7010AM11, or EG2013BM11. You can find the model names listed in the OMC under CPE > Monitor. From the CPE webgui, you can find the roaming setting on the Settings > LTE > Internet Settings page.

To upgrade the CPE firmware from the CPE GUI:

  1. Go to System > Restore/Update.
  2. Select the check box next to Keep Settings if you want to preserve the CPE’s current configuration settings.
  3. Click on Choose File.
  4. Click on Flash Image.

  2. In the Upgrade Type pull-down menu select either All, ODU SoftWare Upgrade, or IDU SoftWare Upgrade.

  5. Select the check box next to each CPE you want to upgrade and “move” them to the Selected section of the window using the right arrow.
  6. Choose the Execute Type, which determines when the upgrade will occur – either immediately or scheduled.
  7. Click on Next to bring up a list of image files.
  8. Select the radio button next to the new firmware file name
  9. Select Finish.
  10. In the list of image files shown on the CPE > Upgrade > Software page, find the new firmware and under Operation select the 3 vertical bubbles icon. In the Operation sub-menu, click on Active or click on  Awaiting Start > Active (depending on which Execute Type you selected). You will receive a Confirm window asking if you want to take the upgrade action immediately. Select OK if you do.
